A behind-the-scenes look at CUT’s “Grandmas Try Magic Mushrooms” video from the lead facilitator, Lisa Snyder. Learn how legal psilocybin sessions work in Oregon, safety and screening practices, and how elders explored mushrooms with professional support. Book a free exploratory call.

When the team at CUT reached out to create “Grandmas Try Magic Mushrooms for the First Time,” they wanted to do it safely, legally, and with real care for the participants. I’m Lisa Snyder, a state-licensed psilocybin facilitator in Oregon and Colorado, and I was grateful to help support the experience as a facilitator and coordination partner with InnerTrek.

My intention in participating was to help  Cut.com’s participants could explore psilocybin in a safe, legal container. Seeing elders like these amazing women step into a psychedelic experience with curiosity, humor, and courage felt meaningful, and I’m honored to have held space behind the scenes. Shout out also to my colleague, Rose, who agreed to do this project with me.

Why I said yes to this project

Psilocybin is often talked about in the context of trauma or mental health — and those are powerful paths — but healing can also include laughter, curiosity, connection, and simply being witnessed in a supportive environment. This video helped open a window into that side of the experience, while also showing that:

✔ Psilocybin use can be guided and intentional
✔ Safety, preparation, & support matter
✔ Legal access exists in Oregon under Measure 109
✔ Older adults are exploring psychedelic healing too

It was heart-warming to see these grandmothers approach the experience with openness, and to support them in doing so responsibly.

What My Role Looked Like

My support included:

  • Helping coordinate the project, start to finish, with our licensed service center, InnerTrek

  • Ensuring all potential participants went through a health screening process with our doctor and therapist on our staff, ensuring all those who passed the health screener proceeded.
  • Ensuring Oregon psilocybin program requirements were followed

  • Providing all prep work, journey day work, and integration support
  • Providing emotional and grounding support during the journey

Much of facilitation during journey days is quiet, focused work — witnessing, supporting, holding space, and honoring each person’s experience. That was my role here. If someone wants to talk, I’m there to support. I am mostly there to ensure there is a container, that I hold intentions as sacred, and that I support the clients who want to do this safely.

Behind every legal psilocybin session is structure and care:

  • Screening and preparation

  • A licensed facilitator present (in this case, we had 2)

  • A safe, supportive environment

  • Integration after the experience

Those elements help psychedelics become not just an event, but a doorway into healing and insight.

If This Sparked Curiosity

If the video made you feel curious — or simply opened a door in your imagination — that’s wonderful. Many people arrive at this work with curiosity first, and clarity later.

If you’d like to explore this path, I offer free exploratory calls to answer questions and help you understand what a legal, supported experience looks like.
